Asylum is the type of protection that the United States provides to people who
have faced with persecution in their country. To obtain this protection, you must prove that you have faced persecution or that you have good reason to fear persecution if you come back to your country. A person who seeks protection as a refugee and asks for political asylum (apply for asylum) or has been granted it, is called an asylant. An asylant is protected from deportation; he can receive a Green Card (Green Card through a refugee), and subsequently apply for US citizenship.
